Football star’s driving ban quashed

ENGLAND and Manchester United footballer Ashley Young has had a driving ban quashed after a judge heard it was wrongly imposed.

Leeds Crown Court heard the six month disqualification was wrongly imposed by Wakefield magistrates under the totting up procedure after Young, 28, was caught driving his Range Rover at over 100mph on the M62 near Brighouse in January. Magistrates imposed six penalty points for the offence which they were told brought the number on his licence to 12 – leading to a disqualification.

The error was disovered yesterday when the print out from the DVLA in Swansea was examined and revealed three points had expired only days before the speeding offence on the M62 on Janury 27.
