Fraud charge for golf club secretary

A SENIOR official at a Yorkshire golf club has been charged with fraud.

Nick Redman, 56, managing secretary at Malton and Norton Golf Club in North Yorkshire, was arrested on February 6 in connection with a number of allegations of fraud relating to the club’s finances.

He answered bail last Friday and was charged with fraud by abuse of position. No further action was taken in respect of a potential further charge of fraud by false representation.

Mr Redman, of Shipley, West Yorkshire, is due to appear at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court on Monday, April 29.

He joined the club in July, 2010, after spending three years as secretary of Baildon Golf Club in West Yorkshire.

Malton and Norton was founded in 1910 and is the “home club” of York-born European Tour professional Simon Dyson. It has been described by veteran commentator Peter Allis as “North Yorkshire’s hidden gem”.
