Friends get roles in drama after trying for same part

Actresses Sydney Wade and Millie Archer landed roles in a spooky ITV drama while auditioning for the same part.

The pair, who go to the same stage school, Scala in Yeadon, Leeds, are starring in the five-part series Marchlands.

Sydney, from Wetherby, plays Amy, a girl whose experiences with an imaginary friend cause havoc in the family.

Millie, from Adel, Leeds, plays the ghostly Alice, which involved filming some scenes in a water tank.

Sydney, eight, is the daughter of former Emmerdale stars Tonicha Dobbs and Stuart Wade, who played Linda Glover and Biff Fowler.

Nine-year-old Millie also has an Emmerdale link as she occasionally plays the role of Carl King's daughter Anya.

The girls had both auditioned for the part of Amy in Marchlands.

But after Sydney won the role, producers were so impressed with Millie that they offered her the role of Alice.

Sydney's mother Tonicha, who coaches her daughter at her own Tonicha Lawrence Academy, said: "The girls became good friends after working together. They beat off some strong competition."

Millie's mother Leslie added: "She got the acting bug when she was six. This was a fantastic experience for her."
