In a statement, Rushden and Diamonds chairman Gary Calder said: "It is with great sadness that this afternoon our England-C goalkeeper Dale Roberts passed away, our thoughts and prayers at this time go to his parents, family and friends."

Tuesday night's FA Trophy Replay between Eastwood Town and Rushden and Diamonds was postponed. But yesterday the club said due to "popular demand", the Nene Park ground would stay open until 7pm for fans to pay tribute to Mr Roberts.

The club has opened a book of condolence.
