Guide picks out just
one Yorkshire eaterie

THE LAND of the white rose may boast more Michelin stars outside of London than any other region, but it appears that feat is lost on some foodies.

Just one restaurant in the region has made on the rundown of the UK’s best places to eat in the Good Food Guide for 2015, published by upmarket greengrocer Waitrose today.

In what may be viewed as a snub from the judging panel, the guide has named only the Michelin-starred Yorke Arms in North Yorkshire among the top 50. The Ramsgill restaurant, which occupies the site of an 18th-century shooting lodge, ranks 44 on the list with a score of six out of 10.

The majority of prestigious places were awarded to London restaurants, which is home to 17 out of judges’ favourite food establishments. For the second year running, Simon Rogan’s Cumbrian restaurant, L’Enclume, achieved the top spot. Heston Blumenthal’s The Fat Duck came in at number two, scoring a perfect ten for the seventh year in a row.

“The Good Food Guide’s annual top 50 restaurant ranking is highly regarded by chefs and restaurant-goers alike,” said consultant editor Elizabeth Carter.

Yorkshire may enjoy more success when the full Good Food Guide is published on September 8. Last year Salvo’s in Headingley, Leeds, celebrated its 30th year of featuring in the foodie bible.
