Guitar thief arrested after police chase

Police sprang into action to pursue a thief who had stolen valuable guitars from a shop in Scarborough.

Witnesses called 999 after seeing a man riding a bike away from the scene in Bar Street with a 'massive holdall' on his back.

Officers chased the man on foot after the incident at 3.40am on Sunday morning. He was detained within five minutes of leaving the premises, and was found to have five guitars in his possession.

The instruments were all collectors' items worth between £3-4,000 each.

A 57-year-old man from Huddersfield was arrested on suspicion of burglary. He remains in custody.
