Healthcare professional retires after 37 years

A medical professional, who has never taken a day off sick in her life, has retired after more than three decades of service.

Jan Freer, from Huddersfield, began her career in the NHS as a physiotherapist 37 years ago has waved goodbye to her former colleagues at the Calderdale and Huddersfield Foundation Trust in Yorkshire.

Having joined the service in 1975, the 61-year-old has never failed to turn up for work and her loyalty quickly saw her headhunted for managerial roles.

She said: “I put it down to luck really, I never got ill so I never called in sick.

“I wasn’t the sort to pull a sickie because in my line of work I don’t think it’s fair.

“If I didn’t go in, there would be a patient who would have to do without an appointment and that could affect their progress.”
