Homes evacuated over gas leak fears after car crashes into house

Homes have been evacuated over fears of a gas leak after a car crashed into a house in Beverley today (Sunday, March 12).

Police say a beige Vauxhall Astra crashed into a house on Grovehill Road in the town shortly before midday.

“The house has sustained damaged and there is a gas leak,” a spokesman said, urging people to avoid the area.

“There is a cordon in place and evacuation of adjoining properties is also necessary.

“There are thought to be two people injured both are though to have sustained minor injuries.”

The road was blocked from Cherry Tree Lane to Trinity Grove and Armstrong Way so that emergency services could make the area safe, although police have confirmed the scene will be cleared shortly.
