Hospice seeks more shop volunteers

VOLUNTEERS are needed to work at a new St Luke's Hospice charity shop that will open in Middlewood Road, Hillsborough, next month.

The hospice's head of retail, Karen Britton, said: "We are looking for people who have some time to spare and would like to become part of the St Luke's team. Even if you have only a few hours to spare each week, that time could be invaluable to us.

"No experience is necessary because we will provide all the retail training you need to get the most from joining the team."

St Luke's Hospice currently has seven charity shops in Sheffield – in Abbeydale, Chapeltown, Crookes, Ecclesall Road, Gleadless, Woodseats and Stocksbridge – and was named the most successful chain in the country at this year's Association of Charity Shops awards.

Ms Britton added: "We are delighted to be moving into Hillsborough and feel this will be a really strong addition to our successful brand."

As Sheffield's only hospice St Luke's, in Little Common Lane, Whirlow, cares for more than 1,400 patients each year. To keep running, the hospice – which receives two thirds of its income from donations – needs to raise about 686 every hour.
