Hospital food manager wins award

THE quality of food at Chesterfield Royal Hospital has been recognised in a major food industry awards competition.

Hospital restaurant manager Kim Beevers opened the Cafe @ the Royal in 2008 and beat off competition to take the national public sector

category of the Cost Sector Catering awards.

Since the cafe opened, it has become increasingly popular with both staff and visitors.

She said: "I was delighted to be nominated and the first I heard about it was when the invite dropped through my letterbox, I didn't even know I'd been put forward.

"To actually win this award is incredible and I've not come down yet, it's such a big awards ceremony and it's not really sunk in yet that I've won."

The award was given in recognition of the home-cooked food it serves, which is produced using locally-sourced ingredients.

Ms Beevers has also expanded into providing hospitality across the site and developing a kitchen in the education centre.

Allied clinical and facilities services director Andrew Jones said: "We're delighted for Kim. She's worked really hard in developing the catering side of the Royal."
