House demolition scheme opposed

CONSERVATIONISTS are opposing the demolition of a large detached home and its replacement with four new houses.

Ilkley Civic Society has objected to outline plans to bulldoze Owler House, known as Four Winds, on Owler Park Road, an unadopted highway in Ilkley.

Applicant Dr Andrew Wright is applying for outline planning permission for four detached houses on the land.

Some residents and the Civic Society have claimed the scheme represents “over-development”. Ilkley Parish councillors also objected on similar grounds.

But Bradford Council officers are recommending the scheme is granted outline permission.

A report by officers says: “Although there is criticism by objectors of the scheme, it is not accepted that the density proposed would be intrusive or out of character.

“There is an assortment of properties on either side of Owler Park Road and there is no consistent alignment of buildings along the lane.”

It adds: “Subject to control of height and design at the reserved matters stage (of the planning process), it is not accepted that the development would be out of keeping or would necessarily be over dominant or intrusive for the site.”

Councillors will discuss the scheme’s merits at Keighley Town Hall on January 16.
