Huge emergency services response in Halifax centre after roof collapse

A roof collapse in Halifax town centre has caused a large emergency services response.

The fire service, police and the council were all in attendance in Southgate, Halifax this afternoon as it was cordoned off.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called shortly after 3pm today to reports of a partially collapsed roof in a commercial premises.

Two fire engines remain on the scene.

Nobody has been injured, it has been confirmed.

Calderdale Council shared pictures of the scene on social media.

A statement from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service read: "We’re currently responding to reports of a partially collapsed roof in a commercial premises on Southgate in Halifax.

"We were called at 15.07 hours today, Thursday 3 September.

"Two fire engines have attended the incident and are still on the scene – one from Illingworth Fire Station and one from Halifax Fire Station.

"The occupants of the premises had already moved to safety by the time we got there and no one has been injured.

"The police and the Council are also in attendance."
