I was just playing joker says unmasked Bradford ‘Caped Crusader’

A Chinese takeaway delivery man has admitted he is the mystery figure dressed as Batman who handed an alleged criminal into a police station in the middle of the night.

CCTV images of Stan Worby, 39, from Wyke, dressed as the Caped Crusader went around the world. He was caught on camera at Trafalgar House police station handing in a 27-year-old friend, who was wanted by police in connection with a number of offences.

Mr Worby said he agreed to go with him after he returned from London for Bradford City’s Capital One Cup Final clash with Swansea City at Wembley.

“Obviously it was done as a joke,” he told ITV Daybreak.
“He wanted to get straight down. Obviously I wanted my bed. It was half-one in the morning.”

Mr Worby said the reaction had amazed him. “I didn’t expect this. At the end of the day it was a practical joke, just between me and (him).”

Officers had not known the identity of the man posing as the 1960s Adam West incarnation of the famous DC Comics character.

The mystery was revealed by the neighbourhood police team for the Buttershaw area of Bradford on their Facebook page.

They said the mystery Caped Crusader told them: “I’ve caught this one for you”, adding he “then promptly vanished into the night to fight crime and the fear of crime in Bradford”.
