The master baker, who until recently lived in Leeds, considered doing a fruit cake but told the panel: “I thought let’s do something a little bit different.”

The cake will be a contrast to the Queen’s usual birthday offering - she is said to have requested the same chocolate recipe every year.

Mother-of-three Nadiya said: When I told the kids (I was making a cake for the Queen), the boys were great at keeping it a secret. I told my daughter and she said, ‘Oh Mary Berry? You’ve made lots of cakes for Mary Berry.”

Her culinary delight will be delivered to the Queen personally next Thursday..

Mrs Hussain shot to fame after triumphing in the sixth series of the popular BBC series.

During the final she baked 16 iced buns in three hours, raspberry-flavoured mille-feuille in two hours, and a multi-layered presentation showstopper which took four hours to make.

During her acceptance speech, she said, “I’m never gonna put boundaries on myself ever again. I’m never gonna say I can’t do it. I’m never gonna say ‘maybe’.”
