Leeds murder victim named amid more arrests

Murder detectives investigating a fatal attack on a 57-year-old man in a quiet village on the outskirts of Leeds have named the victim as Sidney Cox of Thorpe Farm.

Mr Cox suffered head injuries in the attack at a property in Middleton Lane, in Thorpe, on Saturday. A post-mortem examination confirmed that he died of multiple injuries.

Police have so far arrested seven people as part of their investigation. Two arrests were made yesterday when a 51-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman, both from the Thorpe area, were taken into custody on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The man was also arrested on suspicion of assault and both remained in police custody last night.

A 30-year-old man from Doncaster remains in custody and two 16-year-olds and a 40-year-old man, arrested earlier, have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Police also confirmed that 37-year-old Ann Dear, of Stockbridge Lane, Bentley, Doncaster, will appear before Wakefield magistrates today charged with money-laundering offences.
