Long-term options for ex-tip site investigated

WORK will begin later this month looking at the long term options for a major site in Selby.

The Bondgate site will be assessed by contractors working on behalf of Selby District Council for approximately two weeks, beginning on August 12. The work will assess the ground conditions as the council looks at options for the long-term future of the four-hectare site.

The Bondgate area was a refuse tip from 1945 to 1973 and before this the site was used for brick making. The investigative work will involve drilling boreholes to take samples across the site.

The work will be done by the council’s contractor Sirius and during the work there will be restricted access to the field.

Leader of the council, Coun Mark Crane, explained: “We recognise that there may be some disruption and noise for local residents but we are working to ensure that this is kept to a minimum.”
