Luxury hotel boss quits over commute

THE general manager of Yorkshire's newest luxury hotel, the Cedar Court Grand Hotel and Spa in York, has left fewer than four months after the business opened.

Andrew Coney was appointed more than a year ago, to manage the redevelopment of the 20m hotel, which occupies the old North Eastern Railways building.

It is understood that Mr Coney, who commuted from his home in Northumberland, did not want to move to the city.

The luxury hotel opened in May this year and is York's first, five-star hotel.

Cedar Court Group hotel director John Horvath said: "Andrew Coney has done an amazing job over the past year in taking Cedar Court Grand from being a huge development and building project to realising the aspirations we had for creating this landmark hotel."

Mr Horvath, who has been with the company for nearly 20 years, has taken over at The Grand on a temporary basis.
