M62 speed trap catches 39,000
A total of 39,954 drivers were caught breaking the temporary limit imposed between Brighouse and Rothwell during roadworks.
The fines tally, based on a £60 charge per offence, would reach more than £2m but West Yorkshire Police said speed enforcement was not there as a “cash cow”.

Hide AdChief Superintendent Barry South, who released the figures following a Freedom of Information request, said: “Should people need reminding why the 50mph limit is in place, they have only to read the comments from the Highways Agency, asking drivers to take extra care as the roadworks reach their closing stages.
“On a daily basis as many as 131,000 vehicles pass through two junctions of this section of the M62.
“The recent removal of steel safety barriers means that cones are now all that separates those vehicles from the workers.
“West Yorkshire Police and the Safety Camera Partnership are committed to road safety.”
