Magic moment for lawyer who has put breakfast on charity’s menu

THE president of a charity which provides thousands of children with a healthy breakfast at school will be carrying the Torch through a North Yorkshire village.

Alan Mak, the president and trustee of the Magic Breakfast, hailed by the Government as an example of the Big Society in action, said he was proud and honoured to be selected.

The 28-year-old, who balances his charity commitments with a career as an award-winning lawyer, will be carrying the torch at 11.15am on Wednesday through Bedale on day 33 of the nationwide Torch relay.

Mr Mak, who is originally from York, was selected because of his work for Magic Breakfast which provides a free feed to 6,000 children every morning across 210 schools.

He became involved with Magic Breakfast because he suffered from hunger as a child himself.

The charity won the Prime Minister’s Big Society Award in September 2011.
