Man, 27, fined over hare coursing

A MAN from Doncaster has been fined after police brought a rare successful prosecution against him for hare coursing.

Sean David Conway, 27, of Hampton Road, Dunscroft, was arrested in October last year on suspicion of trespassing in pursuit of game at Walkeringham, in north Nottinghamshire, between Bawtry and Gainsborough.

Conway was charged in November, along with another count of driving a car along a bridleway.

Appearing at Worksop Magistrates’ Court last Thursday, Conway admitted the driving offence, but denied the other charge.

But following testimony from four witnesses, including three members of the public and a police officer, magistrates found Conway guilty.

He was fined £100 for the trespass offence and ordered to pay costs of £150, including a £15 victim surcharge. There was no separate penalty for the driving offence.

Pc Nathan Thomas, beat manager for Misterton, Everton and Beckingham, praised the public who came forward with information in the case.

He said: “Without the evidence they offered we would not be in a position to prosecute.”
