Man facing arrest falls to his death from 13th floor of tower block

A man who was thought to be facing arrest over an alleged domestic assault has fallen to his death from the 13th floor of a Leeds tower block.

Police were initially called to a flat at Wortley Heights in the early hours of this morning after a woman called an ambulance to report a domestic assault.

She was treated at hospital and later released.

At about 4am, as officers made enquiries, a member of the public reported a man having fallen from the tower block.

His body was later found on the ground below.

The matter has been referred to watchdog the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Det Supt Pat Twiggs, head of crime for the Leeds district, said: “Our investigation into this incident is at a very early stage and we are making a referral to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

“The body of a man has been found outside the flats and he is yet to be formally identified. A post mortem is due to take place later. A scene is in place and a forensic examination is ongoing.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident or the circumstances leading up to it in the previous twenty four hours.”
