Man goes missing from van near cliff

POLICE have issued an appeal for information to find a man reported missing after his camper van was discovered parked at a cliff near Bridlington.

Simon Hodgson-Greaves, 47, was reported missing on Saturday after a member of the public became worried after finding the vehicle parked at Bempton Cliffs, but realised the driver was nowhere to be seen.

Mr Hodgson-Greaves, from Riccall, was last seen by a member of his family on Sunday, December 15.

He is known to go on frequent camping trips and likes to go walking.

But police said yesterday that they are now very concerned for his safety after finding his unoccupied camper van at the RSPB nature reserve and because of his lack of contact with family members.

A police spokesman said officers are exploring the possibility Mr Hodgson-Greaves has gone walking in the area and may have got into difficulties.

Officers have now issued an urgent appeal to anyone who may have seen Mr Hodgson-Greaves since Friday December 20 to get in contact with them.

Mr Hodgson-Greaves is described as white, about 6ft and slim. He has sandy-coloured hair, a greying beard and moustache, blue eyes and wears glasses.

It is not known what he was wearing at the time of his disappearance, but police said he is known to dress very smartly and often wears tweed jackets, shirts and scarves.

Anyone who may know where Mr Hodgson-Greaves is, or might have seen him since December 20, is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on the non-emergency number of 101.
