Man rescued after falling down cliff into quarry

A MAN has been rescued by firefighters after falling down a cliff into a quarry in Doncaster.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the man is believed to have fallen around 10 to 15 metres onto a ledge at the quarry on Hirst Lane in Stainton at around 9.20pm last night (Friday).

A spokesperson said: “A firefighter using the rope equipment was able to scale down the cliff to the man, securing a harness around him and lowering him the remaining 10m to the ground.

“The man was then taken to hospital by ambulance.”

Crews from Maltby station and the Heavy Rescue Pump from Dearne station attended.
