Two young schoolboys were the victims of an attempted abduction, police said today.

Detectives are appealing for information after a man tried to abduct two boys, aged nine and ten, in Mirfield yesterday afternoon.

The incident happened around 4.30pm as the boys were walking down a ginnel which connects Nab Lane to Priory Way in Mirfield when they were approached by a man who grabbed the arm of one of the boys.

Det Insp Stef Wiseman, from Kirklees District CID said: “Fortunately, the boy was able to pull himself free and the man was last seen leaving the ginnel and moving onto Nab Lane.

“The suspect is described as white, around 40-years-old, average build with a rounded face. He was believed to be wearing a black padded, shiny coat, jeans and trainers. He was thought to be bald or had his head shaved.

“Incidents like this obviously cause concern and we have increased the neighbourhood police presence in the area to reassure residents.

“I want to hear from local people who may have been in the area at the time and seen anyone recognising the description, particularly anyone who was on Nab Lane between 4.30 and 5pm last night.
