Maternity services plan unveiled

HEALTH chiefs have drawn up draft plans to improve maternity care in Hull.

Officials at the GP-led NHS Hull Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) want local people to comment on a maternity strategy for the city.

The group aims to increase the number of women who have
normal births, identify women facing higher risks earlier, improve early access to midwifery and antenatal care and increase availability of birth preparation courses for women and their partners.

The work will also support development of a midwifery-led service alongside the maternity unit at Hull Royal Infirmary.

It follows the controversial closure of the Jubilee birth centre in Cottingham following a critical review by the health watchdog two years ago.

GP Dan Roper, who is the CCG’s lead for maternity services, urged people to comment on the five-year strategy.

“This is a key document that outlines how high quality, clinically safe and sustainable maternity services will contribute towards our vision of Creating a Healthier Hull,” he said.

Comments on the strategy are being invited until July 12 via the CCG website.
