Mayoress reveals puppy-training skills

The Lord Mayor of York has revealed a new side to her family life. Lord Mayor Susan Galloway's sister Lorraine Meehan, who is also the current Lady Mayoress, volunteers with Guide Dogs for the Blind.

She raises puppies until they are 14 months old, on the first stage to becoming guide dogs. So far Mrs Meehan has raised four puppies, two of which were selected by the charity for breeding stock.

Her latest puppy in training Flora, aged 13 months, was presented to the cameras yesterday to publicise the At Home events to allow residents and visitors into the Mansion House free to meet the Lord Mayor and other VIPs. The next one is on August 25.
