Moorland fire was 2km wide

Firefighters from across the region were called in to tackle a moorland fire 2km wide.

The fire was on a stretch of moorland off Turvin Road, Crag Vale, near Mytholmroyd, North Yorkshire. Crews from Mirfield, Huddersfield, Pontefract, Skelmanthorpe and even Manchester combined forces to battle the blaze. At its height, eight pumps were in attendance, although that was later reduced to four.

Crews were still at the site this morning. A spokesman said they were hoping rain early this morning would help extinguish the fire.
