North Yorkshire NHS funding ‘crisis’

A YORKSHIRE MP has warned of an NHS “funding crisis” in his city after figures showed its doctors receive less money per patient than other parts of the region.

Hugh Bayley, the MP for York Central, told MPs the local NHS has sustained a “triple whammy” of financial blows which have left it under-funded compared with other parts of Yorkshire.

Speaking in a debate in Westminster Hall, the Labour MP highlighted figures which show patients in Ryedale and Scarborough receive nearly 20 per cent more funding than those in York – even though their services are provided by the same NHS Trust.

Health Minister Daniel Poulter said NHS England is now reviewing its funding formulas, and that he would “continue to raise concerns about the challenges being faced in North Yorkshire.”
