Jack Roach

FATHER Jack Roach, a parish priest for more than six decades who also served in Canada, has died aged 88.

Born in Barnoldswick in November 1924, he was ordained in St William’s, Bradford, on April 1, 1951.

He served in a number of different parishes in both West and South Yorkshire, including his first posting at Kendray followed by Selby, Batley Carr, Bradford and Sheffield.

He spent sometime in Canada working among the native people. However this came to an end and he returned to work at St Maries Sheffield, then Armthorpe.

Following this period he was chaplain to hospitals in the south of England, he retired and returned to live in Selby. In his later years, he suffered ill health and so had to go into a home.

His funeral mass took place yesterday.
