One Health Group: Yorkshire firm on track for ‘key milestone’ of opening new surgical hub next year

The chair of Yorkshire-based One Health Group has said the company is on track for its “key milestone” of opening a new Scunthorpe surgical hub in spring of next year.

Based in Sheffield, One Health Group provides surgical procedures for patients referred through the NHS ‘patient choice’ scheme.

The company had planning permission approved last year for its new surgical hub in Scunthorpe, a major part of its plans for growth over the next few years.

Speaking to shareholders at the firm’s annual general meeting yesterday, Derek Bickerstaff, chairman of One Health Group, said the Scunthorpe site is intended to become a “long-term healthcare asset for the local community”.

He added: “Construction of our first surgical hub in Scunthorpe remains a key strategic milestone. I am delighted that the project is progressing well and remains on track to be delivered within the one-year construction period and within the original £8m to £9m construction cost estimate. The facility is expected to open in Spring 2027.

“Further sections of the roof have now been completed, an important milestone as the building moves towards becoming weather-tight ahead of autumn and winter, allowing an increasing level of internal activity to take place.

“Mechanical and electrical installation is also progressing, including first-fix work for key services such as wiring and pipework.

Multiple trades are now operating concurrently across the site as the project moves into a more advanced phase of construction.”

He added that the company anticipates “continued growth” in demand for its services from the NHS throughout the coming financial year.

It came as One Health Group also said its trading in the early part of the year had “remained strong”.

The company said it was trading in line with management expectations, and that demand for its services remains “significant”.

In its most recent annual results, made up for the year ended March 31, One Health saw its revenues lift 31 per cent year-on-year to £31.6m.

Pre-tax profit also lifted from £1.5m to £2.7m.

In a statement issued alongside the results, Adam Binns, chief executive officer of One Health Group, said: "2026 marked our fifth consecutive year of growth. We have ambitious prospects, which have been further accelerated by the successful AIM IPO completed in March 2025.

“This has strengthened our ability to invest in additional owned and managed capacity, specifically the development of our first surgical hub.

"Following the considerable progress made during the year, One Health is well positioned to support the increasing demands of NHS commissioners and NHS patients through the delivery of more local healthcare, free at the point of use."

One Health Group also said inits results that NHS national waiting lists remained “very high” at 7.1 million at the end of March 2026, due to ongoing industrial action and record demand.

It added: “This continues to provide an opportunity for One Health as 95 per cent of activity is from new patients from GP referrals, not NHS patients already on waiting lists.”

In April of this year, One Helath also signed a renewed contract with Sheffield Teaching Hospital.
