Arts and culture is still a national priority – The Yorkshire Post says

This is a sector that was said to be worth over £10bn a year to the country and responsible for 360,000 jobs – a number which is comparable with the size of Bradford’s population.

Yet, while the Government did announce a “world-leading £1.57bn rescue package” for “Britain’s globally renowned arts, culture and heritage industries” just over a month ago, progress distributing this money to crisis-hit theatres and venues appears to be painfully slow.

And far from considering it ‘job done’, Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden should be banging the drum for arts even louder – and making the case for Yorkshire’s much cherished cultural institutions playing their full part in Britain’s recovery. Indeed, the stage is set for him – if he can see the bigger picture...
