Calder Valley rallies back to great effect – The Yorkshire Post says
First Storms Ciara and Dennis struck. And, just as local people finished cleaning out ruined homes and businesses for the umpteenth time, this enduring nightmare was compounded by Covid-19.
Yet what has sustained flood-hit towns like Hebden Bridge, Mytholmroyd, Todmorden and so many other locations is a proud community spirit which has culminated with an innovative social media campaign to showcase the area’s independent shops, culture, attractions and food delicacies.
Typical of the area’s renowned positivity, there are now two further ‘asks’. Support the businesses and ventures highlighted, while complying with social distancing rules, and for the Government to speed up flood protection and prevention plans so local people can rebuild their lives with a greater degree of confidence and certainty.
