Dales fell rescue team is fourth emergency service – The Yorkshire Post says

LIKE their counterparts elsewhere in Yorkshire’s more rugged, and remote, wildernesses, the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association is the fourth emergency service.

This is self-evident from their sharp increase in callouts this year – many from ‘staycationers’ who ventured out without adequate preparation for the not so gentle terrain in the foothills of the Dales.

But, just like virtually every other charity or voluntary organisation that is dependent on the public’s benevolence, this increased demand for its services has coincided with a drop in donations and the cancellation of fundraising events.

As such, our message is two-fold as walkers look to make the most of Yorkshire’s views – make sure you follow the safety steps before you leave home, even carrying a fully-charged mobile phone can make all the difference, and please support such groups whenever you can. You never know when you will need them.
