Long but orderly queues for the Queen's lying-in-state are a testament to Her Majesty and well wishers - The Yorkshire Post says

The queue for the Queen's lying-in-state had to be paused; such has been the outpouring of emotion for Her Majesty.

However, it has been a testament to all those that have been involved in the organising of proceedings that everything has run so smoothly, despite the heavy traffic of well wishers.

Despite some hiccups, confusion over whether the queue had initially closed or not, organising such a momentous event can’t have been easy.

At the heart of this has been an army of hundreds of volunteers supporting the lying-in-state in their own time. Amongst them are first-aiders helping people with medical needs. Nearby residents have been offering blankets to those who have been braving the cold of the night.

It harks back to the halcyon days the summer of 2012, when the whole country came together for the Olympics.

Those that have been patiently queuing also deserve praise for showing great patience and resolve for a chance to pay their respects.

Many have journeyed from all across the country. Strangers have become friends. Families have spent time together doing the most British of things, queuing.

Even celebrities such as the former captain of England men’s national football team David Beckham have been spotted waiting to pay their respects.

Hearing a variety of accents, seeing people of all ages and backgrounds come together for one purpose, shows Her Majesty’s ability to not only bring the nation together but also to bring the best out of people.
