Millie Forster’s remarkable life On Her Majesty’s Secret Service – The Yorkshire Post says

MILLIE Forster, who is soon to be 100, brings a whole new meaning to the phrase On Her Majesty’s Secret Service – the much acclaimed James Bond film.

For she was one of the chauffeurs entrusted to drive the Queen and senior royals, as well as presidents, premiers and politicians touring the regions, during her work with the Government Car Service.

And although an entirely innocent remark about Princess Margaret’s stylish suit nearly led her to the sack, it is a measure of her calmness behind the wheel that she was also entrusted with the safety of luminaries like US President Jimmy Carter, James Callaghan and Margaret Thatcher.

Yet, although Millie remains the soul of discretion, having had to sign the Official Secrets Act, her lifetime of memories provide a vivid insight into how Government chauffeurs keep VIPs safe, the pride that they take in their work and how, when it comes to ‘client confidentiality’, their word is still their bond...
