Pleasing role of Yorkshire and the Humber in Prime Minister’s ‘green revolution’ plan - The Yorkshire Post says

That Yorkshire and the Humber has been named as being at the centre of the Prime Minister’s plan for a “green industrial revolution” is promising recognition of the role that the area can play in leading the country to a more sustainable future.

Setting out his ten-point plan to help eradicate the UK’s contribution to climate change by 2050, Boris Johnson identified the region as being one of the industrial heartlands which will “drive forward” his ambitious eco-blueprint by building “green jobs and industries of the future”.

It is pleasing that the area is one of those set to be targeted, particularly given the strides being made here when it comes to green initiatives. Offshore wind farms, for example, and the Green Port Hull vision, which aims to establish the city and East Riding of Yorkshire as a world-class centre for renewable energy, demonstrate how Yorkshire is already leading the way.

Downing Street says the eco-plan will “mobilise” £12bn of government investment to create and support up to 250,000 highly-skilled jobs nationally, money and employment much-needed if this region and beyond is to recover from the economic devastation caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Indeed, only last month, the director of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership said he believed investment in sustainable energy in the Humber was critical to helping the North’s economy to recover.

With this blueprint, Mr Johnson is making all the right noises, claiming, too, he has not lost sight of his vision to level-up the nation. Well, Prime Minister, over to you to put the plan into action.
