Praise for Morrisons and paper bag revolution – The Yorkshire Post says

EVEN though Yorkshire still appears to be cluttered by carelessly discarded carrier bags, the number of single-use plastic bags distributed by the major supermarkets has, in fact, fallen by more than 95 per cent since a 5p charge was introduced in 2015.

Testament to the influence of large stories, and their ability to change consumer behaviour for the better with the switch to reusable bags, Bradford-based Morrisons deserves public praise for its pioneering approach and decision to introduce more sturdy paper bags at checkouts.

The figures speak for themselves. Removing standard plastic bags for life across all Morrisons stores would take 90 million out of use and remove 3,510 tonnes of plastic a year, according to the company’s chief executive David Potts.

Quite staggering numbers, it is to be hoped others follow the fine example of Morrisons – every store, and every individual, is duty-bound to do even more to protect the environment.
