Just as impressive, however, is the breakdown on how the public’s donations will be spent – and the difference that this money will make. As such, The Yorkshire Post, for one, hopes this will continue to motivate the Burrow family, the retired player’s many supporters and MND fundraisers.

At the same time, a Parliamentary petition calling for £50m of government investment to kickstart a pioneering MND Research Institute needs just 30,000 more signatures to trigger a Commons debate. This shouldn’t even be open to debate; funding should be found if more is to be learned about an incurable illness so others are spared of the torment being endured by Burrow with such fortitude.
