Roy Hudd was a born entertainer who made people smile – The Yorkshire Post says

COMEDIAN and actor Roy Hudd’s career was so versatile, and so varied, that readers will have their own cherished memories of a much loved larger than life figure who kept the country entertained for six decades.

From his formative years as a Redcoat at Butlin’s to TV appeareances in series like Call The Midwife, Midsomer Murders, Holby City and Coronation Street where he appeared on the cobbles of Weatherfield as undertaker Archie Shuttleworth, his gentle humour endeared him to many.

The longstanding president of the British Music Hall Society, Roy Hudd was one the last of the ‘old school’ comedians whose wit and repartee – delivered with perfect timing on TV or radio programmes like The News Huddlines – lacked the vulgarity and expletives that have become the stock trade of so many of today’s so-called performers.

A born entertainer, this country is all the poorer for the passing of a colourful character who knew how to make people smile.
