The Yorkshire Post will support those who fear more marine life deaths - The Yorkshire Post says

This newspaper is grateful to all those concerned residents in Teesside, Saltburn and Redcar, who very quickly contacted the editor, alerting us to what they feared might be a new mass death of marine life on the coast. It is only when good quality, thoughtful journalism such as that produced by The Yorkshire Post connects with readers on topics like this one that meaningful change can take place.

Readers of this publication should know that on Tuesday night, at The 2023 Newspaper Awards – attended by national and regional exemplars of the craft – The Yorkshire Post was adjudged to have been a stand-out and clear winner in its category of Regional Newspaper of the Year.

It is precisely because of the relationship and trust between people who care about their communities and the journalists here that this award came about – the achievement is as much a testament to our crucial subscribers and those who buy a paper as it is the hard work of our dedicated teams. Such communities are right to remain worried after dead and dying crabs and lobsters were washed ashore between October and December 2021.

It appears the department has given up on the issue, having closed the investigation last year. But whilst it may be on the fringe of TYP’s core patch, we will not give up asking questions; we are determined to support those who care about what is happening off the coast of the north-east, regardless of how much pressure our curiosity is subjected to by people in power.
