IN response to the letter from Janet Berry (The Yorkshire Post, November 26) on Strictly voting, I’d like to make the following observations.

Firstly, her use of the word “miscreants” to describe those voting for Ed Balls on Strictly Come Dancing is somewhat strong, given that these people have done nothing wrong or illegal (see OED definition).

Secondly, while she is entitled to her opinion of Mr Balls’s efforts on the dance floor, she is not entitled to tell the rest of us how we should be voting.

Thirdly, like many who participate in on-line forums on the subject, Ms Berry appears to be taking the whole thing far too seriously.

Strictly Come Dancing is, first and foremost, a light entertainment programme and Ed Balls entered into the spirit of the show with wholehearted enthusiasm.

He worked extremely hard to learn a new dance every week, and although far from accomplished, he was undoubtedly entertaining – how else would he have achieved such public support?

I say well done and more power to your elbow, Ed. You and your wonderful professional partner, Katya Jones, entertained me hugely and I, for one, will miss you now your time on Strictly is over.
