YP Letters: Our carers deserve an appropriate reward
IT’S strange who some people consider to be heroes these days – the likes of cyclists and singers, one doing not much more than pedalling at speed, the other does some warbling on television.
Do not despair because in our midst we have that great unheralded section of society: the carer.

Hide AdThese people are saving the country, without any fanfare being played for them.
With an ageing population, and the NHS stretched to the limit, ordinary – I would say extraordinary – people are stepping in to make sure those needing care are given it. The Government fails hopelessly in this respect.
Looking after someone long term is stressful and often causes depression, the carer often neglects their own health needs.
It is time that someone looked after the carers – that’s a job for you Theresa May, a job that wants doing yesterday.
After all, they save the country £87bn a year.
Just imagine if they went on strike, it would make Brexit like a walk in the park.
