YP Letters: Our planning members should strongly oppose fracking

IT is my strong belief, from nearly 50 years of involvement with local government, that North Yorkshire County Council should oppose fracking.

If it continues to a further decision being made by a Government-appointed planning inspector, no doubt being a little leaned upon by the Government, so be it, but we in North Yorkshire will at least know that our planning members will have made a sound decision based upon clear local opinion and from those living in the area.

Next May there will be elections for the county council and I am certain any of the members who close ranks and push this application through will be highlighted, as too will their party and leadership.

THE double page spread by Third Energy (The Yorkshire Post, May 18) seems to me to be an act of sheer desperation. Third Energy have still not supplied me with enough information to satisfy me that their plans to frack in Kirby Misperton will be carried out with no ill effects to the people or the local wildlife. I am pleased to know that the majority of people living here believe the same.

WHO can we believe? Among all the conflicting claims between the ‘pro’ and ‘anti’ fracking lobbies, where can we find true evidence? The most reliable sources known to me are peer-reviewed scientific papers, and 84 per cent of public health studies contain findings that indicate public health hazards. The scientific evidence shows the risks to health and the environment. That is why I oppose fracking.

THE people that North Yorkshire represent are in opposition to this development. This application seems to be the thin end of the wedge for

fracking with the potential to grow; Third Energy not knowing what further developments will take place.

HOW dare this Government dictate we accept fracking in our National Park – parks that are supposed to be protected? Fracking is a dodgy process with inherent dangers and many unknowns.
