Attacking Scottish Nationalists won’t save UK – Yorkshire Post Letters

BREXIT is done, the virus has exposed how unequal and inequitable the UK is, and Boris Johnson is going to save us from the Scottish Nationalist Party!

I was born in Scotland, have
an English mother, have lived
in this part of England for 50 years and would like to point out the SNP is the wrong target here. When I talk to both sides of this great divide the overriding issue is not nationality but inequity. This inequality is not only between nations within the UK but within England itself. People in the North compare funding with Scotland, people in Scotland compare funding with London.

Going after the Scots on this issue is not going to save the UK when there is the same separatist issue in England. And the issue is not nationalism but the inability of government to deal with inequality, not in Scotland, but between the North and London.

IT is clear that the threat of Scottish independence will be a defining issue after Covid.

Yet two things concern me. First, Nicola Sturgeon is a far clearer communicator than Boris Johnson.

Second, why isn’t the Chancellor pointing out how much money Scotland receives from the Treasury and that these subsides will stop?
