Auction should back appeal

TO help fund the cost of the Commonwealth Games, the organisers have set up a website for people to bid for some of the typically Scottish items used in the opening ceremony. A sound enough idea, but it doesn’t fit too well with the appeal at the ceremony, fronted by Ewan McGregor, to contribute to Unicef. Let us hope the organisers will give some of the proceeds to the appeal they promoted.

if Scotland votes to go independent, are we to be denied the Met Office forecasts of their weather? This is already the case relating to the Irish Republic.
