Blame migration and not Boris Johnson for housing crisis – Yorkshire Post Letters

SEVERAL correspondents have written recently complaining about the fatuous minutiae of decorating the PM’s flat and who paid for what and when. The leading proponent being the BBC, the Labour Party’s media machine.

Sadly Her Majesty’s Opposition copies the trend avoiding the very serious subjects that should dominate the present political debate, prior to many elections on Thursday.

The public want to know about the pandemic, vaccination rollout, schools reopening, lockdown lifting, economy regeneration, law and order and social care, especially housing for the young to get on the property ladder.

On the latter “housing”, the catalyst exacerbating the problem was the decision by the Blair government to allow three million new immigrants into the country during his tenure of office.

The infrastructure to support such gross numbers was absent, demand surged and prices went up, leaving the young little chance of buying. They turned to renting, rents increased and saving a deposit was made exceptionally difficult. A devastating financial cycle removing home ownership from many.

Sir Keir Starmer is very much on the wrong track at present.
