Britain should produce its own bio-diesel to undermine Putin and Trump - Yorkshire Post Letters

From: Nigel Boddy, Darlington.

Is the quickest, easiest, simplest, cheapest way to help Ukraine and mitigate the effects of President Trump's deal with Putin to buy diesel from Russia, simply to increase our use of bio-diesel in the UK?

It is becoming increasingly clear that the price of diesel in the UK is damaging the economy. The production of bio-diesel for re-sale ended virtually overnight here in the UK when John Prescott imposed the same level of tax and duty on bio-diesel as on ordinary diesel.

Should we reconsider this decision and instead make bio-diesel recycled cooking oil and oil seed rape part of our energy startegy for the shorter term?

As I was driving around this spring I saw oil seed rape growing wild on the road side verges. This is afterall just a variety of wallflower.

If local authorities were instructed to plant wall flowers on all our roundabouts and in all our public parks and if road side verges were planted with oil seed rape, could the humble wall flower provide this vital fuel and defeat Putin?

I note President Trump shut down the bio-fuel industry in the USA on his return to office for his second term.
