Bundle Qatada on next aircraft

From: John Rookes, Rotherham.

I SEE that the Abu Qatada
circus rumbles on and on, once again the Government is humiliated by human rights lawyers and judges in the face of public opinion (Yorkshire Post, March 28).

Who appoints these judges? Qatada should be bundled on to the next aircraft for Jordan and face the consequences later, what can they do?

As a lifelong Conservative
voter, I’m afraid that only Ukip would have ended this fiasco
long ago.

Cob origins

From: Mrs Pat Kellett, Aspin Oval, Knaresborough.

IN reply to M E Wright
(Yorkshire Post, March 27),
the word cob seems to have
been used in each of the
Ridings, but the origin is not
clear.

In the West Riding it was
used to “pick clean an apple core” and in the East Riding “to strike”, and also “cob ’anded” for left handed. “Get a cob on” referred to a fit of sulking.

Confidence vote

From: P Rickaby, West Park, Selby, North Yorkshire.

I NOTE the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) have passed a vote of no confidence in the Education Secretary Michael Gove and Ofsted chief inspector Sir Michael Wilshaw.

I can only conclude both
men must be doing a splendid job.

I HOPE that whoever wins the new franchise for the East
Coast Main Line has more
pride in their corporate image than previous operators. There are still locos and rolling stock with GNER on them (Yorkshire Post, March 27).
