Channelling aggression

From: John Gordon, Whitcliffe Lane, Ripon.

A RECENT programme about the Vikings on TV pointed out that when the Vikings weren’t fighting abroad, they were fighting each other.

This reminded me of the police report about the riots in London a year ago; the rival gangs stopped fighting each other and joined together to loot and pillage when they thought they had a complaint against the police.

The unrest in Syria has caused Sunnis to fight Shias. Aggression seems to lie just below the surface. I hope that football and Olympic sport channels it in the right direction.

Respect for road laws minimal

From: Nigel Bywater, Airedale Terrace, Morley, Leeds.

AT last, police officers in Castleford have fined illegal parking outside a local school. If only police in other areas would take such action.

Respect for road traffic law, and the law in general, is at rock bottom. The other day, I observed three motorists driving the wrong way down a one-way street, the pedestrianised Queen Street in Morley.

Sharp shocks

From: BJ Cussons, Curly Hill, Ilkley.

DO readers think it right that taxpayers’ money needed by the NHS should be spent on drug users and alcoholics?

Shouldn’t those issues be dealt with by very short sharp shocks instead of money being constantly poured out mopping up the consequences of such totally selfish behaviour?
