Disappearing Yorkshire

From: Keith Kaye, Easton Road, Bridlington.

I READ the article about Welcome To Yorkshire’s new Arts and Heritage Trail brochure (Yorkshire Post, March 6) and duly downloaded a copy.

On reading it, I thought I was in 1974 all over again. Except this time almost all of Yorkshire had disappeared. The brochure, despite its title and introduction, is nothing more than a promotion for North Yorkshire.

As expressed in your newspaper before, I have great admiration for the work of Gary Verity and Welcome To Yorkshire. However on this occasion I have to say this is an unfair representation to potential visitors of what arts and heritage our county has to offer.

We don’t want this name

From: Peter Hyde, Driffield, East Yorkshire.

WHEN will the Royal Mail and various other organisations, such as banks, realise that North Humberside no longer exists? Don’t they realise that the post code YO is for Yorkshire?

The hated Humberside was abandoned some years ago and yet these “dyed in the wool” people cannot seem to be able to adjust their thinking. I, along with many, many true Yorkshire folk, find it offensive to receive mail addressed to “Driffield, North Humberside”. How about a newspaper campaign to rid ourselves of that detestable title?

Power to
the people

From: John E Dodd, Belton, Doncaster.

IS it just me or do others find it extremely difficult to understand why it is that our “rulers” find it so easy to argue a case, even to the extent of going to war, for a country thousands of miles away to be allowed to be in control of its own destiny, yet so difficult to even allow the UK citizens the same right?
